Current Opportunities

Investment Associate/Internal Consultant

We offer a challenging position in the Investment team of Energy Infrastructure Partners (EIP), an investment boutique specialized in private equity investments in the energy infrastructure sector. EIP is a pioneer in this field and acts as an investment manager for a number of institutional investment vehicles with around EUR 3bn assets currently under management.

The managed investment vehicles invest directly in energy infrastructure projects or companies that own, operate or develop assets along the entire energy value chain – from hydroelectric power plants, power and gas grids to solar and wind farms, both off- and onshore. With origins in Europe, the EIP team is currently expanding its focus to global investment activities with particular attention to OECD countries in Europe, APAC, the US and Latin America.

The role:

In this newly created position, the candidate will support asset managers in a hands-on consulting role to optimize and add shareholder value in existing and new investments (project assets, corporates and portfolios).

The main tasks will consist of:

  • Value adding initiatives: identification and execution of measures to improve operational commercial performance of assets across the portfolio
  • Strategy: Reviewing and proposing strategies and structures of portfolio companies and assets
  • Project management: managing cross-cutting teams to implement initiatives
  • Modelling: updating and improving valuation models to track investment performance and coordinating various stakeholders such as external advisors and valuation agent
  • Assisting the management, Board of Directors or other EIP representatives with decision-making, by providing qualitative and quantitative analysis (e.g., in changes in capital structure, distribution policy, refinancing, business strategy, hedging policy, governance, regulatory developments)
  • Supervision of market environments: interacting with advisors to monitor market and regulatory changes relevant to the investments
  • Reporting: writing and developing periodic reports on the managed investments in companies for the attention of the investors and Investment Committees
  • Transactions: act as strategy and transformation expert on transactions of new assets or portfolio companies

The candidate:

  • Master, preferably MBA or PhD from a top-tier university
  • Business-relevant professional experience of min. 2 years, in a top-tier management consulting or private equity firm
  • Experience in the energy (particularly renewables) or private equity sector is a big advantage
  • Familiar with development and roll-out of strategy concepts
  • Detail-oriented, but pragmatic problem solver, capable of tackling and solving complex challenges conceptually and systematically

Investment Fund Manager (Luxembourg Office)

This position is based out of our office in Luxembourg.

The role:

  • Cooperation and coordination with the investment manager
    • Organization of potential acquisitions and disposals of energy assets by assisting with the following actions:
      • Oversight of the tax structuring of new investment vehicles
      • Review of the tax memos and transfer pricing study
      • Ensure the implementation of legal documents
      • Prepare the fund flow based on tax advice
      • Review of legal documents
    • Oversight of fund equity (capital increase / decrease) and dividend distributions
  • Coordination of delegated functions
    • Coordinate with and ensure that work with service providers such as auditors, tax and legal advisors and others runs smoothly and effectively
  • Financial accounts, financial statements and tax reporting
    • Oversight of tax reporting throughout the structures (VAT/ CIT Compliance)
    • Oversight of the tax exemption in foreign countries
    • Oversee and control the financial accounts of the relevant entities including cash-flows locally;
      • Review of the annual accounts Lux entities
      • Review of the quarterly NAV reporting
    • Coordinate and instruct all payments and contractual regularization of the entities (including bank loans, intercompany facilities, income and expenses, CAPEX measures, etc.);
    • Liaise with external auditors and all involved parties in order to run the external audit smoothly;
    • Ensure compliance with DAC 6 and other EU regulations.

The candidate:

  • Degree in accounting/tax/economics/finance (CFA or similar qualification is an asset)
  • 4-6 years of professional experience in the sector, preferably in a comparable role
  • Project management skills
  • Experience in Big4 (audit or tax services) or service providers with  alternative investment companies
  • Luxembourg corporate tax knowledge and understanding of VAT/CIT reporting is an asset
  • Well organized, rigorous and dynamic with an excellent attention to detail and accuracy
  • Strong communication, negotiation and analytical skills are necessary to consult with internal and external stakeholders
  • Experience working in an international environment
  • Proficiency in English (both written and verbal), knowledge of German and/or French would be a plus.

Senior ESG Specialist

The role:

The Senior ESG Specialist works closely with the ESG Committee, investment teams, portfolio companies and risk & compliance functions to define and implement our ESG strategy in line with the requirements of our institutional client base and applicable regulations.

The role (100%) includes, but is not limited to, the following key responsibilities:

  • Defining and enhancing a holistic ESG strategy that anticipates future regulatory reporting requirements, trends and developments
  • Improving existing documentation and drafting new ESG Impact Reports, ESG policies, data collection, reporting processes and frameworks
  • Assessing and managing ESG risks and opportunities across the investment process lifecycle; from pre-investment due diligence through to active management of our assets

The candidate:

  • Sustainability professional with a proven track record and degree from a top tier university or equivalent, preferably in Economics, Mathematics, Sustainability, Engineering or a related field
  • Subject matter expert on ESG regulations for the financial industry, reporting and disclosures with strong understanding of the role of ESG data
  • Considerable experience in ESG relating to investments/Asset Management as well as strategy development and implementation, with experience gained in either the ESG/sustainability consulting sector or in a corporation, ideally in the infrastructure or energy sector

Inhouse Legal Counsel & Compliance Officer

The role:

  • A challenging role as inhouse counsel with a holistic responsibility for all legal matters
  • Advising on the legal and governance framework within a regulated environment (FINMA etc.)
  • Act as sole legal business partner for EIP and advise on various legal and compliance matters
  • Identify and manage legal risks by optimizing processes and corporate governance with a focus on funds, investments and transactions
  • Review of legal agreements (e.g. Limited Partnership Agreements or Side Letters) and support in negotiations with the counterparties

Investment Writer

The role:

The new Investment Writer will be responsible for the production of recurring and ad-hoc investment commentary across EIP’s full range of investment products, along with writing and editing copy for other documents such as thought leadership pieces and ESG reports. This involves interacting closely with various teams across the company such as portfolio management, analytics, investments, distribution and communications. The role includes, but is not limited to, the following key responsibilities:

  • Full ownership of the various reporting processes (recurring and on ad-hoc basis) and ensuring impeccable quality of end products as well as coordinating and maintaining the reporting schedule
  • Writing captivating commentary tailored to a variety of audiences and creating easy to follow presentations taking into account asset and portfolio as well as macro level data and information
  • Coordinating internal and external contributors, streamlining review workflows and ensuring ongoing quality and consistency of documents produced by the wider team
  • Developing best practices for ad-hoc reporting to ensure clear definition of scope, stakeholders, audience, purpose and expectations
  • Proactively identifying and producing industry-relevant content creation opportunities in collaboration with the communications team
  • Establishing a culture of going above and beyond, anticipating client needs proactively

The candidate:

  • Excellent academic background with completed studies in business administration, finance, economics, communications or similar with a Master or Ph.D. degree from a globally recognized top-tier university or business school
  • At least 3 years of experience gained in a similar position, as finance journalist within a top-tier leading international media outlet or as a specialized sector research analyst in a bulge bracket investment bank
  • Strong working knowledge of asset management in general and real assets and the energy sector in particular
  • Ability to write in a clear, concise and stylish manner, transforming complex topics into layman’s terms when needed; flair for writing in a number of voices, curated to the audience and reporting type
  • Adept researcher with a knack for filling in missing details from team members and other sources; able to work well within a close team, yet takes initiative to complete independent tasks

The role:

The Investment Analyst will be responsible for supporting both the execution of energy infrastructure investments globally as well as the origination phase of transactions. The role includes, but is not limited to, the following key responsibilities:

  • Execution and maintenance of financial modeling and analysis, company and asset valuations and commercial due diligence – both quantitative and qualitative
  • Coordination of sub-streams in the acquisition process, particularly due diligence work streams such as technical, legal, financial and tax
  • Independent delivery of inputs to investment memoranda as a basis for investment decisions of the Investment Committee
  • Independent research on specific markets and investment opportunities including the derivation of possible investment strategies

The role:

Reporting to the senior investment professionals of the Investments team, the Investment Associate will be responsible for the coordination and execution of energy infrastructure investments globally along with supporting the origination phase of transactions. The role includes, but is not limited to, the following key responsibilities:

  • Supervising a junior team of analysts, the Investment Associate is responsible for executing the due diligence process, supporting the structuring of potential debt financing and offtake agreements, leading valuations, taking ownership of financial models and coordinating advisors including inter alia technical, legal, financial, tax and M&A
  • Supporting the senior investment professionals with qualitative and quantitative analyses in the negotiation of transaction and governance documentation with (industrial) partners and sellers
  • Drafting and preparing investment memoranda as a basis for investment decisions for the investment committee while ensuring timely delivery and accuracy of inputs from junior team members
  • Leading independent research on specific markets and investment opportunities and supporting the derivation of possible investment strategies

  • 3-5 years of extensive investment experience working on sizeable infrastructure transactions, preferably in the global energy sector. This experience will most likely come from another fund, financial investor, or possibly from a leading investment bank, boutique advisor or in the M&A team of an asset developer/utility
  • First-rate M&A skills, gained from a track record of transactions, ideally across multiple jurisdictions, through supporting due diligence processes in the infrastructure sector and executing asset or company valuations and analyses
  • Familiarity with co-investment structures, project financing and good commercial and technical expertise with a strong understanding of the key value drivers and risks of potential investments and financial modelling
  • First experience in project management and leadership of a junior team is a plus

Investment Vice President

  • Independently leading a junior team of analysts and associates, the Investment Vice President is responsible for the execution of the due diligence process, the structuring of potential debt financing and offtake agreements, valuations and coordination of advisors including inter alia technical, legal, financial, tax and M&A

  • First-rate M&A skills, gained from a substantial track record of leading transactions across multiple jurisdictions through conducting due diligence processes in the infrastructure sector and negotiating transactions independently

  • Experience in project management and leading a junior team with high potential
