Investment approach and focus

The Swiss investment group focuses on direct investments in energy transmission and energy generation assets, which can be complemented by investments in energy storage and energy efficiency. The structure of the investment group is unlimited in time and therefore ideally suited to the long investment horizon of energy infrastructure assets.

The investment group invests in Switzerland, primarily in key existing energy infrastructure facilities and, to a lesser extent, in energy infrastructure construction projects that use proven technologies. As an asset manager, we focus on investments in transmission & distribution, generation & storage, and renewable energy, efficiency and heat.

What we do as an investment manager

  • Equity investments in the Swiss energy infrastructure
  • Focus on long-term recurring income and risk reduction measures/structures
  • Focus on existing assets and limited allocation for project development
  • Portfolio construction with clearly defined concentration limits

What we don't do as an investment manager

  • Direct investments in nuclear energy1
  • Pilot facilities/development stage technologies
  • Debt capital at the investment foundation level

1Indirect participation is not pursued, but minor participation as part of a broader portfolio is possible.

Additional conditions

  • Energy infrastructure in the following subsectors: power generation and storage, transmission of energy and energy efficiency
  • Energy supply companies with a strong infrastructure
  • Only companies with headquarters in Switzerland
  • At least 85% of the investment group’s assets in Swiss assets
  • Focus on minority interests in non-listed companies
Important to know: EIP acts as asset manager for an investment group that invests directly or indirectly in Swiss energy infrastructure assets. The investment group is only accessible to pension funds and pension foundations  (“Pensionskassen und Vorsorgestiftungen”) domiciled in Switzerland. The investment focus is on existing energy infrastructure assets in Switzerland in the regulated areas of energy transmission and power generation.
